Born in 1988 in Liberec. Studied at the F. X. Salda Grammar School and then the Technical university in Liberec at the Faculty of Mechatronics. Finished with Bachelor’s degree in IT and Logistics in 2012.
In 2010 began to study composition at the Conservatory of Jaroslav Jezek in Prague in the class of Karel Ruzicka, well-known Czech pianist and composer. He has attended also lessons of Milan Svoboda and Afrodita Kathmeridu, piano lessons of Petr Benes and Magdalena Vlkova and trombone lessons of the great trombonist Premysl Tomsicek.
Augustin was a member of the Big Band ZUS Liberec, conducted by Rudolf Mihulka, for 12 years and this membership is one of the most influencing things in his present career.
As a pianist and trombonist he cooperates with many bands in Liberec and Prague. For example Aries Percussion Ensemble, Tanecni orchestr Vladimira Janskeho, OVJ Dixie. Occassionally with Bohemia Big Band Bohuslava Volfa.
Augustin Bernard has managed to success in many competitions so far namely the state final round of the music schools competition in 2005 on the solo piano, 2006 solo trombone, 2007 trombone trio. In the years 2004, 2007 and 2010 won the competition with Big Band ZUS Liberec and got a special prize for his big band composition Timothy T. Deptudah in 2010, which has been also recorded on DVD.
Another career success was the international big band workshop with Milan Svoboda in Germany, where Augustin had the occassion to play Milan Svoboda’s compositions like Ezop Story and In the sign of Sagittarius (also recorded on CD).
Augustin is also the band-leader of jazz quartet S Gustem, BitMaP Trio and BitMaP Collective. S Gustem is the most progressive and jazz oriented band of his. This jazz quartet attended the Jazz Prix 2012 and got to the Czech final round and in 2013 won the 3rd place in the Czech Jazz Contest 2013.
In 2011 Augustin wrote the Concerto for Vibraphone that he thinks is the most important deed he has done so far. The composition is recorded on his debut album Vision (2012) and played by the “Be Beautiful” Ludmila Stefanikova.
